All ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 Portables are part of the FLASHport® program and ship standard with a FLASH EE Prom, which allows for feature and system upgrades (contingent upon remaining within the same RF deck).
General Information |
An Encryption Option is not required for either clear analog operation or clear ASTRO Digital operation. Encryption can be ordered with the ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 radio either as a factory installed option or separate from the radio for later field installation.
ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 radio functions include selected Stat-Alert™ signaling, selected ASTRO Digital signaling and digital speech coding.
The ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 Portable Series Radios are part of the FLASHport Program. This means that ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 hardware models can be loaded with different software packages that provide the features and functionalities that your customers require. Three different hardware models are available in each band split.
CONVENTIONAL OPERATION
When ordered with the Conventional System Enhancement Software package, the radio ships ready for field programming; this includes field programming of the MDC-1200™ Stat-Alert and ASTRO Digital Signaling features supported in the Conventional System Enhancement Software package. Limited Factory Programming is available as an option for all radios loaded with the Conventional System Enhancement Software package.
The System and Enhancement Option sections offer additional features for the ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 Conventional System Enhancement Software Package. Radios ordered as conventional radios can be field upgraded to trunked operation with the field upgrade kits (contingent upon remaining within the same RF sub-band). Consult the Software Upgrade section for software system upgrade options.
ENCRYPTION
Encryption can be ordered as a factory installed option or separately for future field installation. Not all System Enhancement Software Packages will support Secure Voice communications. Refer to the System Enhancement Options section for Secure Voice Communications compatibilities.
The ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 Portable Line offers three different radio hardware models:
|
NOTE: Model II NOT available in Asia Pac
The ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 Portable is capable of 32 models when the programmable Three Position Top Mounted Switch is used for Zone Operation.
NOTE: Radio operation in conventional priority scan mode does not fully support reception of SECURENET non-priority or second priority channels. Users could experience unacceptable audio holes while receiving a secure call.
CHANNEL SPACING
There are no maximum frequency separation conditions that must be adhered to on the ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 Portable Radio Series. Separation of frequencies can be as wide as the allowable sub-band per radio model with no degradation of any performance specifications. If an incorrect antenna is used, degraded performance may be experienced.

CONVENTIONAL FACTORY PROGRAMMING
(Can be ordered with the H35 System
Enhancement Software Package)
ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 portables ship
without customer specific factory programming unless a programming options
is specified. The following options allow for factory programming of selected
software features and apply to the ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 Conventional
System Enhancement Software Package (H35). All of the following are field
programmable as well and do not necessarily require factory programming.
FREQUENCY AND SQUELCH CODES
Although some models of the ASTRO Digital
XTS 3000 are capable of 255 channels, the factory can accommodate the programming
of only 128 continuous channels in any one radio. If the programming of
more than 128 continuous channels is desired, field programming software
must be used. Only for use with System Enhancement Software Package H35.
ZONED OPERATION
This option converts mode-only ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 portables to Zone Operation radios. A maximum of 16 Rx and Tx pairs can be placed into a zone. There is a maximum of three zones (48 modes) on the "I" Model, with zone operation programmed to the programmable top mounted two position concentric switch. There is a maximum of 16 zones (255 modes) on the "II" and "III" models, and the zones will be programmed to be selected from the keypad. The factory can only accommodate the programming of only 128 continuous channels consisting of any combination of zones and channels and minimum of 32 channels with two zones on the "I" models. NOTE: Option H477 must also be ordered when option H371 is ordered.
ORDERING REQUIREMENTS FOR FACTORY PROGRAMMING OF ASTRO PORTABLES WITH CONVENTIONAL SOFTWARE
The XTS 3000 portables equipped with encryption modules and options H223BF and Q393AC are Approved as Intrinsically Safe, for use in Class I, II, III, Division 1, Group D, AF, G. And non-incendiary for use in Class I, Div 2, Group A, B, C, D only.
PROJECT 25 ENCRYPTION
The DES-OFB and AES-OFB Encryption offered is compliant with Project 25 standards.
The DES-OFB and AES-OFB Encryption Options offered is compliant with Project 25 standards. Operation of DES-OFB and AES-OFB encryption requires the ASTRO Digital CAI (Q806). Radios can be upgraded via FLASHport to CAI operation.
Encryption Modules equipped with DES-OFB and/or AES-OFB are FIPS140-2 compliant. Details regarding the certification, and copies of the relevant certificates, can be obtained on the NIST website at: http://csrc.nist.gov/cryptval/140-1/1401val2003.htm
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING AES OTAR: While the AES option (Q14 & Q15) is validated for FIPS 140-2, the AES OTAR option (Q14 with Q498 or Q15 with Q498), which is Project 25 compliant, is not validated to FIPS 140-2 since the current P25 AES OTAR standard has not been approved by NIST. Any order to Motorola for this option should not be placed without a prior determination by the Government that the requirements of FIPS 140-2 are either not applicable or have been properly waived.
PUBLIC SAFETY SPEAKER MICROPHONES (PSM)
The RF switch has been removed from the XTS Radio to provide cost savings on the model. Therefore, the EXTERNAL RF SWITCH must be ATTACHED to the radio in order for the Public Safety Microphone (PSM) to operate. A wrench tool must be used to place the RF switch. These kits must be ordered separately. (*) Requires antenna. See radio antenna's section. The RF switch and microphones listed are FM approved. The External RF switch must be ordered to operate the Public Safety Microphone (PSM)
