Motorola Canopy Wireless 2.4 GHz Subscriber Module (SM) is the subscriber termination unit or the Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). A centralized view of the network makes it easier to manage resources efficiently. Motorola’s Canopy system is enhanced with network management tools that improve security management, network operations and the installation process. The Bandwidth and Authentication Manager (BAM) Release 2.0 reduces administrative effort and interfaces the Canopy network to RADIUS databases.

FEATURES OF RELEASE 2.0

RADIUS Authentication enables network operators to exchange information freely from the Canopy system and therefore, will not need to maintain separate databases. Support for a Variety of Databases means that BAM 2.0 will work with more installed operations systems including RADIUS servers, or to a BAM specific database through ODBC (Postgres and MySQL are currently supported). Server-Based License Management saves time and effort because BAM users will no longer need to manually manage AP specific licenses. SM Status Control provides the ability to suspend individual Subscriber Modules without having to delete them from the database saving time managing the Canopy system.

Motorola Canopy 5.15 - 5.85 GHz Broadband wireless system provides cost-effective high-speed Internet access to residential and business customers alike. Motorola Canopy hardware draws little power and its packaging is unobtrusive. The equipment uses antennas of only moderate gain resulting in minimal requirements for aiming the units. Hence, installation is easy, in contrast to many of the higher frequency solutions currently available. Finally, the built-in visual feedback installation indicators allow the unit to be installed by virtually anyone. These characteristics facilitate initial deployment and network expansion as capacity needs increase.

Multiplexor is a device that combines several signals for transmission over a single medium. A demultiplexor completes the process by separating multiplexed signals from a transmission line. Frequently a multiplexor and demultiplexor are combined into a single device capable of processing both outgoing and incoming signals. Axxcelera.

T1/E1 Multiplexer is a modular gateway that works with Canopy Backhaul Modules to enable one T1/E1 circuit to be extended over Ethernet networks. The Canopy T1/E1 Multiplexer is available in two power configurations:

    * an external 3.3-v DC power source from a 120/240-v AC adapter (supplied by Canopy)
    * a connection to an external ?48 v DC supply. 

The T1/E1 Multiplexer converts the data stream from T1/E1 ports into Ethernet packets that are then transported over the Canopy BH link. This device can be used to extend T1/E1 services. You can configure the Canopy T1/E1 Multiplexer to operate as either a T1 or an E1 device.

The cost of leased lines is a substantial recurring expense for service providers and enterprise customers alike. The economic benefit of replacing leased lines with a Canopy T1/E1 Multiplexer translates into cost savings for the enterprise and a business opportunity for the service provider. The ease and speed of deploying the wireless T1/E1 solution across the Canopy family of backhaul solutions is a significant advantage over the time it takes to order and provision wired T1/E1 services.

The CMM is a critical element in the operation of the Canopy system. At one AP cluster site or throughout an entire wireless system, the CMM provides a GPS timing pulse to each module, synchronizing the network transmission cycles.

Without this pulse, an AP is unsynchronized, and a BH timing master cannot synchronize a BH timing slave. An unsynchronized module may transmit during a receive cycle of other modules. This can cause one or more modules to receive an undesired signal that is strong enough to make the module insensitive to the desired signal (become desensed).

Reduce Costs of System Installation and Operation Service providers need to offer superior service to their customers at the lowest cost. Reduced cost of operations

Reduced Cabling Between System Modules There is only one cable going from the CMM to each Access Point (AP) module carrying the Ethernet connection, synchronization pulse and GPS data. Integration reduces the number of points of potential failure in the module and improves the quality of service by reducing down time, saving service providers hundreds of dollars in the labor and material cost of cabling to each of the radios and backhauls. Integrated cabling also reduces the time and costs associated with system troubleshooting and maintenance. For network operators interested in customizing their CMM to include specific equipment such as a router, Motorola offers the CMM2 with
physical access to the connections between the switch and the AP.

Smaller Enclosure

The smaller enclosure of the CMMmicro reduces the time and cost associated with installation labor. The enclosure requires 25% of the space of the larger CMM and its 8 lb weight is 1/3 of the larger CMM.
